On 22 October 2024, South African Nationwide Parks (SANParks) marked a serious conservation milestone with the completion of a significant ecological hall inside Desk Mountain Nationwide Park.
This newly integrated land bridges the hole between Noordhoek and Kommetjie, linking the Central and Southern sections of the park. This achievement enhances biodiversity and ecological integrity within the area.

The venture, initiated in 1998, confronted challenges as a result of privately owned Noordhoek wetlands. Nonetheless, by a collaborative effort involving SANParks, the Metropolis of Cape City, WWF-SA, and the Desk Mountain Fund, 439 hectares of core wetland properties have been acquired by SANParks in 2004. These areas have been declared a part of the Cape Floral Area World Heritage Web site in 2015, with restoration efforts ongoing.
On the handover occasion, it was introduced that Kommetjie Estates and Purple Cliff Property donated the ultimate 25.5 hectares of land wanted to finish the hall. This addition will help the return of endangered fynbos and strengthen long-term conservation efforts within the park.
