BW Group’s gasoline shipowner BW LNG has bolstered its fleet with the acquisition of two LNG carriers from Swedish tanker proprietor Stena Bulk.
The 2011-built tri-fuel diesel electrical (TFDE) vessels Stena Crystal Sky and Stena Clear Sky have been picked up for an undisclosed sum and renamed BW ENN Crystal Sky and BW Clear Sky, respectively.
The corporate mentioned the sister LNG carriers “symbolize glorious versatility and functionality for buying and selling, along with potential conversion into floating storage and regasification models (FSRUs) sooner or later”.
The transfer on 174,000 cu m models takes BW LNG’s owned fleet to 34 vessels, together with 4 FSRUs and 4 ships beneath development at Hanwha Ocean in South Korea. The duo will likely be delivered straight into their ongoing charters with TotalEnergies and China’s ENN Vitality.
“That is an attention-grabbing development alternative for us; buying excessive specification vessels on the water with strong charters to present key shoppers,” mentioned Petter Lindvig Larssøn, govt vice chairman for LNG delivery at BW LNG.
Erik Hånell, president and CEO of Stena Bulk, mentioned that the corporate took the choice a while in the past to promote the 2 vessels. Following the sale, Stena Bulk may have the 2006-built 145,000 cu m Stena Blue Sky left in its LNG fleet.
“We’ll proceed to be pragmatic about Stena Blue Sky and the alternatives that barely rationalising our fleet will deliver,” Hånell added.
